Death
I decided to focus on the character, Death. He isnt actually a character in the novel but he narrates the whole story. Death has a never ending job. It depresses him and he really doesnt like his job. When he talks about the colors he does so because maybe he is just trying to see a brighter side of his job. Knowing what color everything will be when he gets there is always different. Probably the only thing that is different in his job. We may see him as being human but there are a few ways we can tell he isn't. First, we really don't know if it is a he or a she, i just decided to go with he because it fits better. Second, he says he's haunted by humans so he will never be one of us. Death isn't the reason we die he is the reason we are able to get into the after life. He also isn't the typical grim reaper we all think of, he is more like a mirror, every one of us will die and be Death one day so he in a way looks like all of us.

Death is a very interesting character. I really like your idea for the reason Death always see colors. It makes sense that he is trying to brighten up the situation because, like you said, we get the impression that he really does not like his job. I agree with the statement saying that he is not the reason we die. However, he is the reason we get into the afterlife within this story. That is a very clever thought. I never thought to think of Death as like a mirror. It makes sense that he could look like us.
ReplyDeleteI liked that you picked Death as your character. He truly is one of the most complex characters in the book. I agree that his job truly makes him miserable, but he realizes that someone has to do it. I feel like the colors provide a distraction from his gloomy work. I also agree that he is not the reason we die, just the messenger.
ReplyDeleteI love that you picked death as well. I think we can all agree that Death is an interesting character because it is not expected....when I picked up the book and began reading I thought it was so interesting that Death was narratoring. I was confused at first but I started realizing that without death narrorting the book - it wouldnt have the same feel.
ReplyDeleteI agree as well with death not liking his job. In the beginning it got to me when he says " WE all die..." because yes, we do. But with him saying that I felt that he was saying " as HARD as it is, we die..." I dont think death is happy we die, and he doesnt want us to, we just do. When he talked about the colors it made me think of what a person thinks before they die. The beauty of the things we dont see when we are living...because sometimes we are selfish and dont see the small things, just the big picture.
Death isnt the grim reaper and you are right. I loved your blog about death :) it was a nice change.
It's cool that you picked Death. I also think he is a very interesting character. We don't know much about the character which makes it even more interesting. I like how you said that he is more like a mirror than the grim reaper that everyone pictures in their mind.
