American Born Chinese vs. The Bluest Eye

The books American Born Chinese and The Bluest Eye both taked about the issue of race.  The Bluest Eye was aimed more toward African Americans, while American Born Chinese was aimed at Chinese. I think American Born Chinese does a really good job at showing how many people look at different races.  I like how it took 3 different stories and in the end brought them all together. It shows how some people can be so rude and hate a different race.  While at the same time other people love them.  Like take Chinkee, for instance,  his own cousin dispises him and hates when he comes to visit every year.  While when all his class mates love him.  Instead of finding him embarrassing they find him hilarious.  Both books for the most part share the theme of racism.  Its very broad but they both share it.

  1. I agree with you on the fact that with books share the theme of racism. I also agree how you interpreted Danny's cousin Chin-Kee, he embarrassed Danny, but it seemed some thought he was hilarious while others didn't like him saying if he got his spit on you while talking you should check for SARS.

  2. I agree as well that both of these novels portray a strong theme of racism. My favorite quote you stated in your response was "I like how it took 3 different stories and in the end brought them all together". I kind of feel like we all have our own stories that make up our lives....and honestly...I think if we would all work together as a loving society we could come together with the idea everyone is equal. The ending results would be similar to the way American Born Chinese ended....with all of us having different stories we could all be easily brought together.
